Self Portrait
I choose to walk my dog for my self portrait because it represents me to have someone that's always there. Everyone should have one friend in their life that is there for them which my dog is that for me. A self portrait that inspired me was Malik's making the music on a pad that made a light show. It inspired me because it moved me and music can do that to someone. It also was interesting how you can make up what you want to do and it calmed me and intrigued me. When he was just following the beat it made me think, that would be a good thing for me to enjoy and get my mind off whatever I'm thinking about.
Some of the elements of my self-portrait include lighting, framing, and sound. For lighting I just used the natural light outside to show me walking my dog. When I was trying to figure out my framing, I thought if I turned my camera sideway's it would turn out sideway's, but it didn't. I should of filmed it just up and down so you don't have to look at the video sideway's. Finally for the sound, I used the natural sound from the outdoor's and every so often my dog would stop so I had to tell her to come.
Using all of those elements for creating this video, it made the video feel more natural, like walking in my shoes. To me I feel like I'm there walking my dog with the lighting and the natural sound. Those elements connect to my self-portrait on how it looks and feels to walk a dog. Like I said, when watching the video it feels like your kinda walking in my shoes which connects to my self-portrait that I was trying to portray.
Ultimately, what I hope viewers gain by looking at my work is how I walk my dog and that I care for my dog. I think I was not successful in achieving this because the video was sideway's and it was kinda boring. I don't think people understood why I did this but to me, my dog is a huge part of my life and I care about her. Next time I create a self-portrait, I will make my video more stable and the video quality better because it wasn't the best this time. Overall, what I learned from the process of creating my self-portrait is to make sure you understand what you love and it is ok if others don't understand why you choose to do this for your video.
